Chapter 3: terms

Abstraction: is the ability to ignore details of parts to focus attention on a higher level of a problem.
Modularization: is the process of dividing a whole into well-defined parts, which can be built and examined separately, and which interact in well defined ways.
Divide and conquer: a technique where one divides problems into manageable amounts.
Class diagram: shows the classes of an application and the relationships between them. It gives information about the source code. It presents the static view of a program.
Object diagram: shows the objects and relationships at one moment in time during the execution of an application. It gives information about objects at runtime. It presents the dynamic view of a program.
Object reference: Variables of object types store references to objects.
Overloading: A class may contain more than one constructor, or more than one method of the same name, as long as each has a distinctive set of parameter types.
Internal method call: Methods can call other methods of the same class as part of their implementation.
External method call: Methods can call methods of other objects using dot notation.
Dot notation: is the object name, the method name, and the parameters for a call.
Debugger: is a software tool that helps in examining how an application executes. It can be used to find bugs.
Breakpoint: is a flag attached to a line of source code that will stop the execution of a method at that point when it is reached.

Chapter 2

Field: store data for an object to use and are also know as instance variables.
Instance Variable: are fields.
Constructor: allow each object to be set up properly when it is first created.
Method: consist of two parts: a header and a body.
Method Signature: the forth line is know as the method signature.
Method Body: is the remainder of the method after the header.
Parameter: the way in which both constructors and methods receive values is via their parameters.
Accessor: returns information about the state of an object.
Mutator: changes the state of an object.
Declaration: contained in method bodies, defines what happens inside an object when that method is called.
Initialization: responsible to put each object of that class into a fit state.
Block: any set of declaration and statements between a pair of matching curly brackets.
Statement: defines what happens inside an object when that method is called and is paired with a declaration.
Assignment Statement: stores the value represented by the right-hand side of the statement in the variable named on the left.
Conditional Statement: takes one of two possible actions based upon the result of a test.
Return Statement: responsible for returning an integer value to match the int return type in the method’s signature.
Return Type: written just before the method name.
Comment: are inserted into the source code of a class to provide explanations to human readers. They have no effect on the functionality of the class.
Expression: are things that compute values.
Operator:symbol that initiates.
Variable: an amount of something.
Local Variable: is a variable declared and used within a single method. Its scope and lifetime are limited to that of the method.
Scope: of a variable defines the section of source code from where the variable can be accessed.
Lifetime: are variables that describes how long the variable continues to exist before it is destroyed.

Terms:

Object: Java objects model objects from a problem domain.
Class: Objects are created from classes. The class describes the kind of objects; the objects represent individual instantiations of the class.
Instance: is roughly synonymous with object; they are of particular classes.
method: operations that you can use to manipulate.
signature: The header of a method is called its signature. It provides information needed to invoke that method.
parameter: Methods can have parameters to provide additional information for a task.
type: Parameter have types. The type defines what kind of values a parameter can take.
state: Objects have state. The state is represented by storing values in fields.
source code: The source code of a class determines the structure and the behavior of each of the objects in that class.
return value: Information returned about an object.
compiler: Translates java code into machine code.

Intro:

Hey its nikko and this is my podcast on tattoos. Im going to start out by saying a little of the history of tattoos then move on to some controversies, there impact on society, and some concluding thoughts.

History:

According to designbloom.com the history of tattoo began over 5000 years ago. The first tattoos probably were created by accident. Someone had a small wound, and rubbed it with dirty with soot and ashes from the fire. Then once the wound had healed, they saw that a mark stayed permanently. Despite the immense popularity of tattoos, the practice has not left much of a historical record.

In addition, according to Roy D’Silva from Buzzle.com he says humankind has always tried to enhance their looks. Therefore, jewelery, clothes and other accessories have been present since time incarnate. One of the oldest ways of decorating oneself known to human kind was the tattoo.

Tattoos have been used for all kind of purposes ever since the dawn of time. Over the years, they have served as symbols of rights, symbols of rank and seniority or being juniors, symbols of spirituality, devotion, religion, rewards and awards for bravery, amulets, talismans and security. Tattoos were also used as a symbol of punishments, being outcast, slavery and conviction. Tattoos have been one of the most frequently used body arts.

Controversy in the topic: A lot of gangs use them to show off their symbol or history while some people use tattoos for remembering a loved one or something important in there life.

Impact on Society: Some may think that people who have tattoos are “bad”. They assume that they could be in gangs (depending on their apperience) or they seem to be untidy.

Concluding Thoughts: I think that tattoos are important to some people while others think negative about them. People should be able to get them if they want.

Multiple Intelligences

1. Multiple intelligences was developed by Dr. Howard Gardner in 1983.

2. Dr. Howard Gardner is a professor of education at Harvard University.

3. There are eight types of intelligences: Linguistic intelligence (words), Logical-mathematical intelligence (numbers), Spatial intelligence (pictures), Kinesthetic intelligence (hands on), Musical intelligence (music), Interpersonal intelligence ( people smart), Intrapersonal intelligence (knows about yourself), and Naturalist intelligence (nature).

4. The intelligence i think i use are Kinesthetic and Spatial because i think its easier for me to learn with pictures or by trying it out.

Test Results: Musical 25/25, Intrapersonal 14/25, Interpersonal 23/25, Logical 16/25, Linguistic 11/25, Kinesthetic 16/25, Naturalistic 15/25, and Visual/Spatial 15/25.

5. a. Based on the results Im not that surprised because i like music a lot and i am people friendly.

c. I think i learn the best from people.

d. I’d try to listen and explain as best as i could.

e. I’d asked them if they could do some more group projects.

f. Some teachers in the pass did. They gave me some useful advice and insight that helped me a lot.
